This is all about how much video content is watched on your channel by people all across the world. It’s all those hours of video that people have watched on your channel in the last 12 months (from any given date).
You could have well 4, 000 hours of Watch Time over the lifetime of your channel, but it’s only 12 months that count for YouTube Partner Program requirements.
A couple of things to tell you about Watch Time. Live streams do count towards that total. Unlisted videos also count towards that total.
But if you delete any videos, that Watch Time will be removed from your channel Watch Time hours. And one more final thing, if you are already in the YouTube Partner Program, and if your channel falls below 4,000 hours of Watch Time, YouTube won’t automatically remove you from the partner program, but they can do it at their discretion.

YouTube generates three choices of thumbnail images for you. The thumbnail image will be seen on your channel, playlists, suggested video previews, and also anywhere your video is embedded.

Adding the final touches
Now that your video is successfully uploaded, it’s time to take advantage of YouTube’s built-in-tools. These tools can be helpful to enhance your video in one way or another for your audience.
Audio library: Easily add songs and sound effects with YouTube’s own library.
Blur faces: If you would like (or need) to blur the faces of any people within the video, there’s a dedicated section to this within the “enhancements tab”. There’s also a ‘custom blur’ option for extra blur action.
End Screens: Add an end screen to the last 5-20 seconds of your video, showcasing elements about your channel like additional videos, playlists, links, and subscribe buttons. You can even apply templates to make this process easier.
Cards: Cards can point viewers to a specific link (from a list of eligible sites) and show customized images, titles, and calls to action, depending on the card type.
Closed captions: If you would like to add closed captions to your video, YouTube makes it easy. Simply select the language and then upload a file or transcribe all spoken parts of the video for it to be auto-synced.
7. Privacy Settings
Different types of videos should have different types of privacy on your YouTube channel. It’s important to set the privacy before uploading videos you do not want available to the public or visible on your channel.
Here’s a breakdown of what each privacy setting means:
- Public: Anyone can see your video, it can appear as a suggested video, and will be listed in the videos section on your channel. Videos that you are sharing to educate, create engagement on social media, promote your brand, or give your audience an inside look at your business or community are best served by the public setting.
- Unlisted; This means that only people who have a link to the video can watch it. When someone clicks the video section of your YouTube channel the video will not be discoverable. Unlisted videos do not appear in YouTube suggested views or in YouTube search results. Utilizing the unlisted privacy setting allows you to share certain videos only with the people who will find them relevant.
- Private: Videos with the Private setting can only be seen by you and the users you choose to see the videos. Private videos do not appear on your channel and are undiscoverable by all users.
- Schedule: This privacy setting uploads the video to your channel but makes it so the video is not seen by the public until the date and time you choose during upload. This setting allows you to plan out a video campaign or series without having to upload each video individually.
Once you choose your privacy, click the big arrow button and select the video you want to upload from your files, or simply drag and drop the file.
Tip: HD videos are best for your channel. You want to upload a video with dimensions that are either 1920×1080 or 1280×720.
Having a crisp, clear video gives people the impression that you are professional and that your content should be taken seriously.
